About Me
I am a registered nurse with a certification in perinatal nursing. I am also a certified childbirth educator and a mom and a grandma. I have worked with many of the OB/GYN groups at Piedmont and Northside. I have 25 years experience offering private, intimate and personal classes by appointment to individuals. No groups. The class is tailored to each couple's specific needs and wants and they decide what and when. It is perfect for non-traditional people, busy people and people who want to have an enjoyable few hours all to themselves learning the whats and hows of childbirth. It is ideal for high-risk pregnancies, where the classroom is not appropriate or contraindicated for women with restrictions. No frills and party games, just what to expect when you are finally ready to give birth to that baby. Scheduling is very flexible and the rate affordable.
We naturally talk about rudimentary breastfeeding along with bonding and early parenting and childcare. We discuss fear of the unknown and I am completely non-judgmental about who you are or what you want from this pinnacle experience. This class is designed for you. It is very non-threatening and completely reassuring. I think this class is the most beneficial experience for learning about the intimacies of childbirth, the post-partum period and newborn bonding and care. A one-on-one session with an experienced mentor is the best place to discuss anything you need to know with no shame or embarrassment.
I have no biases about how you choose to birth your baby. I am an independent childbirth educator which means I have no affiliation or allegiance to any hospital, practice or ideology. This works to ensure that you get the information in a straight forward and honest manner without any special interest's interference. I am only concerned about you getting the information you need to manage this special time in your life, as best you are able – for yourself. I want to provide you with all the options and information so you can be knowledgeable about making the decisions you can make and understanding what the advanced technology and expertise of your chosen medical professionals must provide you with to ensure the safest outcome for you and your baby. Feel free to call for details and specifics.
Ready Birth was born out of a need I identified many years ago: that people have lots of questions about why to have children, how to conceive, how to manage pregnancy and how to give birth and recover in the postpartum period, the way they want to. Our communities often do not offer the support that couples crave for knowing the answers and getting the information that they seek before, during and after one of life's daunting transitions. I have had many years of experience in managing high-risk situations that are physical and emotional. I understand that the intimate decisions are often not discussed and therefore often go unsatisfied.
There are always unique variables that go into the choices that people face for this daunting task of creating a family: from indecision to unexpected grief and loss to vaginal birth after cesarean delivery to post partum depression. There are questions about pediatricians and innoculations, pets and kids, single parenthood, adoption, in-laws and mothers, cord blood collection, circumcision, aftercare for mom and baby and for dad, too. There are needs for guardianship and life insurance, daycare and even later, questions about co-sleeping and potty training, parenting and how to introduce baby number two. It has been my honor to be available for open discussion about whatever may be of concern to people facing the challenges and struggles, joys and worries that accompany this phase of life. Done in privacy and confidence, so that people feel comfortable and capable as they move into this new responsibility. It can be lots of fun too.
